In recent news there has been much turmoil between cultures and races. On any given evening news programs, one can see violence in Israel as Palestinians and Israelis fight over who deserves the promise land. In the United States, shootings between African American youths and Caucasian police officers have caused quite an uproar and some have led to riots. In Texas, a young middle school boy of Muslim descent is arrested for bringing a project to school that appeared to one staff member as a bomb. There has always been misunderstandings when different races come together. Stereotypes have developed throughout the years. Some still look down upon interracial couples. Prior to November 2000, interracial marriage was still illegal in Alabama. However, interracial marriage had been legal in every state for more than three decades thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court s ruling in Loving v. Virginia (1967) - but the Alabama State Constitution still contained an unenforceable ban in Section 102: The legislature shall never pass any law to authorize or legalize any marriage between any white person and a Negro or descendant of a Negro.
